Diabetes Daily’s David Edelman shares his learnings from the World Diabetes Congress in Dubai. With more than 15,000 in attendance, the event brought together those living with diabetes, medical professionals and decision makers from around the world.

We know people can live and thrive with diabetes and we know they can be active, but what about those who are playing competitive athletics? There are plenty of people living with diabetes who play sports and some are top-level athletes like Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler or cyclist Phil Southerland. I thought it might be interesting to feature an athlete who may not be as well known as the pros, but is excelling in sports while living with diabetes.

In part two of our conversation with “Diabetes Rising” author Dan Hurley, he provides a look at how the high rates of diabetes are a recent trend as well as some of the triggers that drove him to writing his book.
