#DSMA (Diabetes Social Media Advocacy) Twitter Chat
Every Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST – Online
The diabetes community, family members of people with diabetes and caregivers get together once a week to participate in the #DSMA (Diabetes Social Media Advocacy) Twitter Chat. The topics vary from living with diabetes, media, food, exercise and more.
DSMA Live
Every Thursday at 9 p.m. EST – Online
The #DSMA Twitter chat conversation is taken a step further on Thursdays via a live interview known as DSMA Live. Each week, Cherise Shockley along with co-hosts George Simmons and Scott Johnson, speak about the current week’s topic with a different guest every week. People participate by calling in or chatting on the message board.
JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes – Lake Tahoe, CA
September 7-10, 2012 – Various Ride Locations
Riders from around the world take on two challenges: raising the money needed to fund research for better treatments and a cure for diabetes, and reaching a personal training goal to prepare for a destination cycling experience.
Backpack Bivouac XXI – Newbury, OH
September 8, 2012 – Camp Ho Mita Koda
Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland hosts their Annual Benefit Celebration for Camp Ho Mita Koda for children with diabetes.
Gold Coast Councours/Bimmerstock 2012 – Glen Cove, NY
September 9, 2012 – The City of Glen Cove
The day will feature great food, live music from the talented young musicians from School of Rock and a number of fabulous sweepstake prizes will be raffled. Proceeds benefit the Diabetes Research Institute.
Washington Mystics Dribble to Stop Diabetes Team Night – Washington, DC
September 14, 2012 – Verizon Center
The Dribble to Stop Diabetes Team will be in Washington, DC, raising awareness of the importance of healthy, active lifestyles and diabetes awareness as the Washington Mystics take on the Los Angeles Sparks. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
Healthy Lifestyles Mall Event – San Antonio, TX
September 14-16, 2012 – Ingram Park Mall
Take part in a pop-a-shot challenge, pose for an interactive photo experience that instantaneously emails you a picture of yourself slam dunking, lifting an extreme dumbbell, dancing, or crossing the finish line in a marathon.
San Antonio Silver Stars Dribble to Stop Diabetes Team Night – San Antonio, TX
September 14, 2012 – AT&T Center
The Dribble to Stop Diabetes Team will be in San Antonio, Texas, raising awareness of the importance of healthy, active lifestyles and diabetes awareness as the San Antonio Silver Stars take on the Seattle Storm. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
The Great Race – San Antonio, TX
September 15, 2012 – Exact location will be disclosed one week prior to the event
The Great Race is coming to San Antonio to put the locals to the test. This is a mobile scavenger hunt event, compatible with any mobile device, so everyone is welcome!
Party of the Cure – Chicago, IL
September 15, 2012 – Museum of Contemporary Art
Friends for the Cure presents an evening of color, cocktails and creative cuisine benefiting the American Diabetes Association.
Mindful Eating – Northampton, MA
September 24, 2012 – Cooley Dickinson Hospital
Join Paul Serafino-Cross, MS, RD, LDN for an introduction to eating more mindfully.
Ritmos de Salud – Boston, MA
September 29, 2012 – New England Conservatory of Music
The 2012 Ritmos de Salud event is an inaugural benefit concert designed to increase awareness about the impact of diabetes on children and their families in the Latino community.
