[ September 1, 2011; ] Diabetes Art Day is a web-based initiative for the Diabetes Online Community to “tell a story” about life with diabetes though creative visual expression. It’s a way to generate diabetes awareness outside of the DOC by sharing artwork on Facebook, Twitter, blogs and community websites. Diabetes Art Day is for people with any type of diabetes and their families.

[ September 3, 2011; ] This Half Marathon is held in McCarthy at the Glacier View Campground and uses the trail system to climb up to Kennicott and back. In addition to this course, a five mile course is also available.

The topics vary from living with diabetes, to media, food, exercise and more.

[ September 9, 2011 to September 11, 2011. ] Get away for a weekend of rest and rejuvenation. Take a deep breath, connect and re-energize. While the kids hang out with counselors from The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, enjoy quiet time with your spouse at Trapp Family Lodge’s beautiful mountainside resort: go hiking, have a massage or soak in the outdoor hot tub. Meet new friends who understand. Talk to guest experts one-on-one or enjoy family time at the bonfire or on a horse-drawn carriage ride.

[ September 15, 2011; ] The sanofi-aventis U.S. Innovation Challenge Demo Day will showcase prototypes from the five semi-finalists of the Data, Design, Diabetes Innovation Challenge, a next-generation challenge that brings together the richness of open data sets, the values of human-centered design, and the leading-edge methodology of the top innovation accelerators to find the next breakthrough to help millions of Americans living with diabetes.

[ September 17, 2011; ] The Oklahoma Run to Defeat Diabetes benefits The Harold Hamm Oklahoma Diabetes Center, a program established by the University of Oklahoma with the goal of promoting the well-being of all people with, or at high risk of, diabetes in Oklahoma, regardless of ethnic background or financial status.

[ September 18, 2011; ] The International Diabetes Federation and civil society leaders are organizing an afternoon celebration in Central Park, New York City, on September 18, the day before the UN summit. The goal is to raise awareness that non-communicable diseases are the leading killers today and are still on the rise.

[ September 19, 2011; ] The tournament takes place at Virginia Beach National Golf Club in Virginia Beach on September 19th, 2011. It is sponsored by the American Diabetes Association and the family and friends of Mark Luczak, who at an early age lost his life to complications of diabetes, and Hilda Vazquez, a long–time supporter and tournament coordinator. All proceeds from the Tournament benefit diabetes research, education, and advocacy efforts.

[ September 25, 2011; ] Participate in the Highland Park Walk to Cure Diabetes now! As a participant, there are a few options. You can sign up as a team captain and register a team for this walk. Team Members, can join a team that has already been registered by the Team Captain for this walk. The final option is to register as an Individual Walker, not as part of a team.

[ September 25, 2011; ] By popular demand, Carnival for a Cure has come to the Bay Area and will take place on Sunday, September 25th, 2011 at the San Francisco Zoo. All funds raised from this exciting family event will benefit the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and will help the millions of children and adults affected by diabetes.
